River Palace Cafe
About This Spot
Nestled just a stone’s throw from the gentle flow of the River Lee, River Palace Cafe welcomes visitors with the ease and warmth of a well-worn favorite. There’s a comforting pace here; it’s a place where mornings unfold slowly over steaming cups of cappuccino, and the buzz of the day blends softly with the hum of nearby conversations. Whether you’re stepping in with a dog on a morning walk or settling down after a busy day, the atmosphere carries a quiet reassurance — familiar, unhurried, and quietly inviting.
The space itself reflects a sincerity often missing in larger, flashier spots. It feels like one of those neighborhood havens where the little moments — the soft clink of cutlery, the low murmur of friendly banter, the sight of a simple fry-up arriving at the table — are cherished as much as the food. The menu flows with thoughtful variety, balancing hearty breakfasts that anchor the day to comforting lunches and dinners that suit both quick stops and unhurried meals.
Here, a plain omelette is far from plain — it arrives paired with fresh salad and enough care to make you pause. Pastries and breads fill the air with warmth, while more substantial plates invite a satisfying pause before heading back out to the canals and countryside nearby. It’s easy to imagine families, locals, and travelers alike finding this cafe a natural meeting point, where friendliness feels effortless and the service moves just at the right rhythm.
For anyone wandering along the towpath or seeking a solid, honest meal in Roydon, River Palace Café offers a quietly dependable spot — one that doesn’t rush, doesn’t complicate, but instead embraces food and company with steady, genuine hospitality.

Good food doesn't always need to be fancy. Sometimes you just want a fry up, or a simple burger and chips. This place is great. Simple food comprehensive menu for hot and cold dishes, breakfasts, lunches and some proper dinner dishes too. Only place locally that offers all aspects of a proper breakfast including black pudding and hash browns. 1 thing that is always guaranteed, you are greeted with a smile. You enjoy your food and coffee. You leave with a smile and will come back. Update 04/04/2022, they now serve baklava! It was great!

Stayed at the campsite opposite and called in on our way home. Really good menu, food was excellent. Fast friendly service. Definitely recommend. Only gave it a 4 for atmosphere as the guy two tables away needed to shout his conversation for some reason !

A nice little corner of the world. Carpark directly outside opens early and is ideal for avsnack stop on a walk along the canal

Whilst working away we asked someone if there was a good place for a cooked breakfast and here was recommended. Portion sizes great, friendly staff and a mountain of toast. Good value for money and plenty of breakfast choices.

The name cafe should be dropped off the name an replaced with the name restaurant, it is the most organised run cafe I've ever been to, considering it was absolutely busy on the Sunday me an my wife Sharon visited,as the sun was out an a lovely walk along the canal
